New Senators Elected
Written by Johnny Costello

(Europeia, July 19, 2017) - The Republic of Europeia elected a new Senate on July 6, 2018. Nine members stood for election after a new Act put in place allowed voters to vote on the senate size. Voters could vote for both their preferred senators and how many they wanted in the senate. This is the first election Europeia has done this for and the people selected the lowest possible option at five. Some new members came in with fresh and challenging new ideas while older senators sunk their platforms into the spot that Europeia seemingly needed, experience.

Georgiana, a new candidate to the senator scene here in Euro challenged the views of a more favored choice, Pichtonia. During Johnnys questioning, another new member to Euro but with no claim to past experiences in a senate seat, Vice President Kuramia pointed out a horror that faced the region despite Johnny holding his ground on the topic. Matthew Williams, while new to Euro was no stranger to Senate elections and drummed up a platform to cater to the peoples ideas. Some of the more experienced candidates made their voices heard, Vlaska, re-elected from last senate, who has solidly more experience than either Gerogiana or Johnny focused more on the ideas of evaluating the candidate when asked the same question. Punchwood highlighted his experience in the senate and Citizens Assembly along with ministry work. Olde Delaware came to stand last for the election and spoke a very passionate speech about change. Olde Delaware has ran for senate many times and finally had success. Whitmark, former CA chair, showed his poise while running on the platform of 'onward together' and for his first ever speaker of the senate role Pichtonia was elected unanimously, the now fourth speaker to be elected to their first term in a row.

The following citizens were elected to office in the Senate in the general election: Olde Delaware, Pichtonia, Punchwood, Vlaska, and Whitmark.
Votes as follows

Pichtonia- 32
Vlaska- 27
Whitmark- 22
Punchwood-21
Olde Delaware- 19

Matthew Williams- 14
Johnny Costello- 10

The newly elected Senate speaker highlighted the falling numbers of votes and quickly turned to address his work towards the Junior senators program. Pichtonia named his deputy speaker as Punchwood and named Vlaska as the Chair of the Constitutional Convention

When asked, Pichtonia claimed “Legislatively, the Senate will want to finish the legislation that remains on the floor. Especially the discussion on the Citizenship Act has to move forward. Otherwise, we'll want to show what an active legislature, a People's Senate, can look like.” I'd say those are strong words from a strong new senate
