Europeia Elects Its 60th President

(Europeia, August 13th 2018) - Europeia has elected its 60th President with the World Assembly Delegate Ervald winning the Presidency at 16:00 BST on August 11th in an uncontested election. He won with 40 votes (76.9%) against the Re-Open Elections option which received 12 votes (23.1%). Turnout was down with a large drop in the number of votes cast, from 82 votes in the previous election to just 52 votes in this election.
Ervald ran alongside Drexlore who had most recently served as a Senator and Grand Admiral of the Europeian Republican Navy. They ran under the banner of "Moving on Up", promising new Cabinet members, new ideas, a new version of the Bealtaine Accords, and to build on projects which aim to train future Europeian leaders. A poll conducted during the election showed that their platform was popular with the Europeian public.
In his Inaugural Address, President Ervald called on every Europeian to do their part in ensuring that the region will "continue in the books of history." Saying actions such as getting involved in discussions, working in Ministries, setting up a private media outlet, and simply engaging would all play a part in seeing the region thrive. He closed his address by saying:
"We are not here to serve an individual or a clique or a political party. We are here to serve one another and to walk together with faith that we can have a brighter future. When we are united in that, we are stronger together as a region."

President Ervald enters office after stark warnings from two senior Europeians about the future of the region. Writinglegend, who has served as President for longer than any other Europeian, said that "Ervald will need to excel in this office. Europeia is seeing a stark decrease in political activity" and that "When presidential elections no longer become an exciting tale, a spectacle, then Europeia loses what makes us unique."
The founder of Europeia, HEM, gave a powerful and forceful speech after voting had concluded. He said, "To be direct: the region is in a death spiral..... Activity has fallen off a cliff."
He then called on each citizen of Europeia to step up and get involved in the region:
"Europeia is on our deathbed, the only question is: do you care?..... President Ervald cannot fix this on his own. And anybody expecting him to is quite frankly delusional. He needs you. He needs you to step up."
This Presidential term's focus will likely be on the numerous schemes that affect bringing interest back into the political spectrum that makes Europeia Nation State's premiere political region.
