ORIGINAL STATEMENT 02 DECEMBER 2018

All —

It is with no pleasure that I announce Yuno shall be indefinitely banned from Europeia’s forum and offsite properties.

While we cannot assign intent, it is clear that Yuno has recklessly put Nationstates.net game players in danger by exposing underage players to inappropriate content and advertising servers with content that breaks Discord TOS to Nationstates.net players.

Yuno has had multiple different servers with sexualized content that Nationstates.net players were invited to join. One of these serves was apparently deleted by Discord moderation for having “loli” content (short for “lolicon”; cartoons of very young-looking girls engaged in varying degrees of erotic behavior), whereas the other server exposed Nationstates.net underage player(s) to pornographic material. Her explanations about these servers are thoroughly unsatisfactory, and at times are inconsistent and implausible.

To be clear: we have no desire to police people’s personal lives. When considering bans, we are considering the threat posed to our members. Regardless of intent, exposing minors to pornographic material is a safety issue, and we cannot extend access to our community to those who have displayed such dereliction in their online behavior.

This pattern of what is, at best, negligent behavior has left us with no choice but to issue this ban.

UPDATE 15 March 2020:

All —

The Administrative Team has recently been petitioned by Yuno to overturn her ban. Ordinarily, we would not make a public statement on the review of a ban if the status isn’t changing, but because Yuno’s status in Nationstates has been, and is likely to continue to be a contentious matter, we believe it has become necessary to state publicly why we are not granting this request.

First off, it is important to restate why Yuno was banned from our community -- which differs from other community bans. Our investigation began after Yuno was banned from The East Pacific over a litany of explosive allegations that were not all clearly communicated or substantiated by the TEP admins.

However, when we reviewed the evidence that was collected, it became obvious to us that Yuno had been grossly negligent in allowing at least one Discord server to be deleted by Discord administrators due to the presence of NSFW content, and allowing a minor to have access to pornographic material on another. These core facts established in our ban were not contested by Yuno in conversations we had after the announcement, though it’s clear that she does not view them as sufficient for a ban.

While we’ve seen firsthand that The East Pacific administrators are currently working hard to reform their processes and revisit these investigations with better procedures, we do believe that their initial announcement and decision did a disservice to all involved. Since making our ban, we have been asked to defend all the explosive allegations made in The East Pacific’s original ban and the rumor mill it inspired. We have not been able to do so, because that is not the basis of our ban. In addition, individuals have petitioned us about Yuno’s ban status in Europeia, citing the poor procedure around the explosive allegations in The East Pacific’s ban, which again, we cannot reiterate enough, are not the basis of our ban.

In evaluating Yuno’s ban, we reviewed all materials from our past investigation, received materials from Yuno, and reached out to gather additional evidence from other administrative teams. Taken in whole, nothing we have seen causes us to overturn the ban. In fact, new evidence we have seen confirms our belief that there would be a safety issue in allowing Yuno to rejoin our community. In addition to the two incidents that we cited in our previous ban, we’ve seen considerable evidence that she mishandled additional safety matters. Her statements regarding these matters have been inconsistent, implausible, and in a few cases just plainly false. Additionally, attempts to discuss the outcome of the review were met with hostile responses including intimidation involving a special 'archive account' that was apparently added to the convo to make clear the conversation was being documented for some unknown purpose. Needless to say this does not mitigate our safety concerns.

Ultimately, it is important to remember that in Europeia, bans are not about punishment, they are about the safety of our community. That is why Europeia’s Administrative Team does not involve ourselves in arguments or general moderation (i.e. doling out punishment for one-off bad behaviors). We only involve ourselves in matters where we believe there is a safety issue where our members could be in harm’s way, and we believe based on past negligence that allowing Yuno to be involved in our community constitutes a safety issue.

Thank you,

-- Europeian Admins

well thank Nethel for that!!!
that seems... gross and weird...

A good ban. I've had people ask me about this once and I blocked them. Weird thinking imo.

But good ban ty Admins

I was wondering what was going on with the Yuno ban. Thank you for clearing this up.

An update:

It's been brought to our attention that only one server has been verified as having been deleted by Discord moderation not as we initially stated, two. This error was due to a miscommunication we had with another administrative team. The original announcement has been edited to correct that.

I'm glad for the bump, but it took me a minute to figure out there was an update to the original post --
So, just to clarify to anyone seeing this: there is an update to the original post.

A good decision -- sad that people are still pestering you guys over a year later about this. Keep up the good work. :)

Yeah I'm second-guessing the decision to re-use the old thread but we wanted the material all in the same place so everyone could get the full context without having to link-out somewhere.

This is the part that takes the cake. You want to be unbanned, you are told like an adult why that can't be and the response is to try to intimidate people? Grow the fuck up.
